This week marks 4 months that I’ve been in Korea learning Korean.

Although I still have a very long way to go, I feel like I’ve well and truly beaten the elementary hurdle and can now function much more comfortably in Korean. Now it’s time to really concentrate on expanding my vocabulary which I’ve found is the only thing holding me back from more interesting conversations.

I can now devote a little more of my time to maintenance of my other languages.

Today I took my first italki lesson in French.

I learned French about 6 or 7 years ago with a Tahitian teacher back home, spent some time in France using it but then gave it up. I’ve decided to bring it back up to a confident level by taking some weekly conversation lessons over Skype.

It was once again confirmed for me that you never really forget a language. Even after years of not using it, it came back to me rapidly while I was talking to native speaker today (albeit very rusty).

I’ll try to put up some progress videos in French shortly.

Also decided to give Duolingo a try as a supplement to see what all the fuss is about.
