I’m Pranaya and I come from a land where you can step into a neighbouring state and feel like an alien who has just landed in a strange new world. Learning new languages is a necessity in India because every state has a different language, culture and identity-each state is a separate country in itself. Having moved from Kerala to Tamil Nadu at a young age, I have experienced this problem first hand. I’m a Tamil speaking Malayalee whose ‘national language’ is Hindi and medium of instruction in school and college is English ( Complicated huh? )
I decided to learn Spanish because I fell in love with ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude.’ I would like to read it in the language it was written in. I also love Spanish music. ‘Tengo la camisa negra’ has been my ringtone for a while now! Also, I believe that learning a language as widely spoken as Spanish will open a host of new vistas for me.
I’ve been learning for a month now and any help I get would be greatly appreciated. If anyone would like to learn Malayalam, Hindi or Tamil, do let me know. It would be an honour to help fellow language learners…
